Feedback on the Presentation (7/17)
On July 17, 2025, we gave a 15-min presentation in class.
In the first few minutes, we reported the results of our original survey conducted using Google Forms.
We then introduced both the negative and positive effects of social media, outlined the NPO we founded (We created this as a part of our class project. This is not a real organization, but a fictional one made for academic purposes.)—including its mission statement and activities—, and explained how we plan to raise funds and promote our organization.
↓Here are each of our reflections and the feedback from our classmates.↓
Maika's Reflection
When answering our research question, I utilized the information I had gathered to explain both the negative and positive effects of social media. After that, I introduced an overview of the NPO we are planning to establish. Since the main goal of our NPO is to educate people on the appropriate use of social media, we focused more on its negative effects in the presentation.
I highlighted four main negative effects: the negative impact on mental health, sleep deprivation, the deterioration of real-life social relationships, and reduced concentration. I explained each of these points in detail. Among them, we especially focused on sleep deprivation because it is also featured in the subtitle of our blog.
I was very happy to receive positive feedback from my classmates. Many people said that the slides were creative and attractive. Some mentioned that our video was helpful and high quality. I’m really glad to hear that because we worked hard on it. We wanted to make our message clear and easy to understand, so we used not only visuals but also data and examples. One classmate said the survey results made them think about their own screen time. That made me feel our presentation was effective.
At the same time, I received some helpful advice. One person suggested we should include more information about our group. I agree that it’s important to share who we are and why we care about this issue. Another person said we should not just read the script. I understand this point. I was nervous during the presentation, so I relied on my notes too much. Next time, I want to practice more and try to speak more naturally.
Some classmates also gave advice on how to improve our NPO plan. For example, they suggested adding studies done by researchers to show how serious the problem is. I think this is a great idea. It would make our plan more reliable and convincing. Another suggestion was to focus more on recruiting and fundraising. I agree that these are very important for making the NPO successful.
Overall, this experience taught me a lot. I improved my skills in researching, organizing ideas, and presenting in English. I also learned how to listen to feedback and use it to make my work better. I hope to use what I learned this time in my next project or presentation.
MAO's Reflection
Through this project, I was able to learn more deeply about the impact of social media addiction and sleep deprivation on our daily lives. Conducting the survey and analyzing the results helped me understand how common these issues are among people our age. I also realized the importance of raising awareness and taking action before these problems become more serious. Working as a group and creating an imaginary NPO was a valuable experience that improved both my communication and presentation skills.
After our final presentation, we received a lot of helpful feedback from our classmates. Many people said that the survey results made them think about their own screen time, which made me feel that our message really got through. I was also happy to hear that our survey questions were well thought out, and the prompting video was mentioned by most of the respondents as one of the highlights. It was great to know that our group’s goal was clearly understood by the audience, and overall, it seemed that people felt we gave a strong and meaningful presentation.
At the same time, we received some suggestions for improvement. Some classmates said we should have focused more on how we plan to recruit people and raise funds. Others wanted a more direct explanation of how our NPO would actually help those who are suffering from the issue. A few people also mentioned that we could have added more specific details and examples about the activities we do, including a clearer image of what those actions would look like. There was also some feedback that we rely too much on reading scripts.

Your presentation was excellent. I was especially drawn in by the video you made introducing your non-profit organization. It was so amazing, I thought it was like an advertisement on TV.
返信削除In addition, I strongly agree with this sentence ”Working as a group and creating an imaginary NPO was a valuable experience that improved both my communication and presentation skills.”
I also thought that I was able to strengthen my cooperative and communication skills through this experience. I also found blogging and researching with Google Forms to be very useful experiences.Thank you for your wonderful blog! I was looking forward to reading your blog every week! (Chiharu)
